Observing a map of the Archipelago, it is possible to notice two different regions each one with its own characteristics: the interior, where the coasts of the islands are bathed by waters of the Admiral Bay or the Chiriqui Lagoon, and the outside, facing the open sea. Whereas in the inner zone the coasts mainly are occupied by mangroves, in the outside rocky, beaches and cliffs they are the predominant ecosystems. In fact only two of the islands, Colon and Bastimentos, and both Zapatillas keys have coast to the open sea. In those coasts are located the best beaches of the region: Bluff, in Colon island, Wizard and Long in Bastimentos, and the very small but beautiful beaches of both Zapatillas keys. The neighboring vegetation to these beaches mainly is made up of small plants, shrubs and trees. These beaches are very important in addition, so that they are the place of nesting of at least three species of marine turtles: the hawksbill, the leatherback and the green.
